Commission urges end to competition restrictions in professional services
Too many restrictions prevent effective competition among lawyers, accountants, architects, engineers and pharmacists in Europe, says the European Commission. Because most of the restrictions are at national level, the Commission calls on EU member states, competition authorities and the professional bodies themselves to banish as many of the restrictions as possible. The Commission indicates that it will monitor the efforts of national anti-trust organizations, and may tackle some of the issues itself if insufficient progress is made.
