Explains how trainers at IBM developed a new, faster approach to designing new training courses called Agile learning design. Describes why a new approach was needed and why the traditional approach of ADDIE (analyse, design, develop, implement and evaluate) was no longer sufficient. Lists the key practices that were drawn from other areas of the business to form Agile learning design – extreme programming from software engineering to enable the team to work together to determine goals and shared objectives; rational unified process from both systems and software engineering because of its iterative development methodology; the focus on eliminating waste from lean manufacturing; and the daily “scrum” update meetings from product development. Explains how these processes enable the training design team to adapt to changing requirements, reduce the project risk, increase the visibility of team progress, involve stakeholders and learners from the beginning of projects and speed up the value that the team makes to business. Underlines the success of this new approach by listing the achievements to date.ISSN: 1535-7740Reference: 41AH922
