i-FM.net, the online resource for facilities management professionals, has published the first rankings of FM companies available on the Web. The i-FM top 20, a continually updated listing of the major players operating in the UK, can be sorted by turnover, profit and number of employees.
Serco currently tops both the Turnover and Profit tables, with ISS leading the employee league. Other companies featuring in the Top 5 are Building & Property, Jarvis Facilities Management and Johnson Controls.
As well as financial performance, each company entry includes details of ownership, services and representative clients as well as a link to the corporate Web site.
"A series of mergers, acquisitions and new entrants has transformed the UK FM scene over the last two years", says i-FM editor Richard Byatt, explaining the thinking behind the new feature, "companies now operating in the sector have backgrounds as diverse as construction and catering and provide everything from 'hands-on' delivery to a management only service.
"Problems of definition, lack of information, the difficulty in making like-for-like comparisons have plagued attempts to produce a definitive survey of the FM market's supply side. i-FM has now harnessed the unique capabilities of the Internet to deliver a continually updated snapshot of the UK FM industry. I fully expect the listing to be refined and expanded over the coming months".
The key criterion for inclusion in the i-FM Top 20 is facilities management business turnover. The 27 companies currently listed (there is a 'bubbling under' section) have a combined turnover exceeding £3.3bn.
