China and EU to step up co-operation on education and training

China and the EU are to increase their co-operation on education and training, following a meeting between European commissioner Viviane Reding and her Chinese counterpart, Sun Jiazheng. Annual visits will take place between senior managers to increase mutual understanding and identify areas likely to be appropriate for further co-operation. There will also be regular meetings to exchange best practice. Chinese students will be invited to take part in the EU’s new Erasmus Mundus programme of higher education co-operation, if resources allow. There may also be scope for youth exchanges under the EU youth programme, and the participation of Chinese trainees in projects supported by the EU media-training programme.
