Abstract

Each year, more than eighteen thousand visitors make their way into the United States History, Local History, and Genealogy Division of the New York Public Library, which contains reference works from every part of the world. Actively collecting since 1847, the division has acquired a reputation as one of the most comprehensive collections of its kind in the nation.
