Abstract

Many new industrial coatings have been introduced aimed at decreasing energy usage. These coatings take advantage of chemical reactions which lead to crosslinking at room or slightly elevated temperatures. One such product is “Protech G” (Progress Paint Manufacturing Co., Inc. (P.O. Box 3588, Louisville, KY 40201). This coating dries in fifteen minutes at 150°F which means that conventional line speeds can normally be retained. The finish is described as “appliance quality” and the coatings are available in numerous colours and varying degrees of gloss. The coating is said to cost less than two‐package urethanes, although it is a two‐component material demonstrating a long pot life. It is non‐toxic, uses conventional thinner systems, and is easily applied.
