Abstract

Offering stock and stock options is an ever‐more popular strategy large companies use to attract and retain their senior and midlevel managers. Giving employees a financial stake in the company encourages them to think like investors and allows them to benefit from the company's rising value. But what incentives can privately held companies, or those with limited shares outstanding, offer their executives to give them that same sense of ownership?
