Abstract

More and more libraries are creating foundations to help them raise money and visibility within their communities. The San Antonio Public Library in Texas has taken fund raising one step further. They are using the San Antonio Public Library Foundation not only to raise funds for the San Antonio Public Library but, perhaps more importantly, to raise friends. The San Antonio Public Library Foundation was created in 1983 to enable the Library to attract donations from corporations, foundations, and individuals that would enhance the library's resources. Governed by a Board of Directors comprised of eighty‐five community leaders, the San Antonio Library Foundation currently is conducting an Enrichment Campaign to raise money for the new Central Library which is under construction. San Antonio's Library Director June Garcia is working with the Foundation Board and staff on the fundraising efforts.
