Abstract

Libraries depend on entrepreneurs to create and market software to support library functions. This essay describes a software enterprise in pro forma terms so that library managers may understand the constraints that limit the action of software vendors. To simplify the presentation, we treat the firm as though it had only a single product over its life. For comparison, the essay includes a pro forma description of a workstation software enterprise.
