PRESERVING OUR CRUMBLING COLLECTIONS: An Interview with Patricia Battin, President, Commission on Preservation and Access
Abstract
We hear more and more about the fact that acid paper is causing the destruction of millions of books and documents in the nation's research libraries. In nearly universal use in publishing since the mid‐19th century, acid paper interacts with water in the atmosphere to cause books to become brittle and eventually turn to dust.
