Abstract

It is not too much to say that we are looking to a revolution in management development, education, and training. In the last two years or so there has been a growing realisation that management development in all its forms is a vital component of the quality of management and that this, as the Chancellor of the Exchequer told the NEDC last year, will be more important than any other factor in determining our economic performance over the next decade. Yet as the NEDO/MSC [Handy) and BIM/CBI (Constable and McCormick) reports showed when they were published last April on the international and national dimensions of management, British managers are woefully lacking in the basic inputs of development and education.
