Abstract
IN October 1969 the Chairman of Garden Ornaments was quite pleased with the computer department. Invoicing, stock control and payroll had been on it for two years now, admittedly without showing all the cost savings that had been hoped for, but without any catastrophic muddles such as had almost put Concrete Mushrooms out of business. The chairman and the financial controller discussed the next step, which they felt should be a major one for the following reasons.
