The world of work is changing fast. The concept of a job for life has disappeared. Career changes, short‐term contracts, “portfolio” careers and self‐employment are commonplace. “Employabity”, rather than “employment”, has become the watchword.
Enhancing Your Employability explains what employability means, and offers practical advice on how people can improve the prospects of working in a sphere they enjoy.
The book is easy to read, with plenty of diagrams, cartoons and checklists. Nevertheless, it asks searching questions about motivation and attitude to help people to match their working life to their personal values.
The publication does not, however, suggest ideas or ways which a person should follow. It aims simply to open the reader’s eyes to the possibilities, and to help him or her to make a personal decision on self‐knowledge and understanding.
The book’s sources of support and information are all in the UK. A short booklist guides readers interested in examining individual topics in greater depth.
Enhancing Your Employability contains plenty to appeal to people who are starting their careers, looking for change of direction, returning to work after a break or facing unemployment or early retirement.
