Conference announcements

6th Annual BMDA Conference will take place in Lithuania!

The 6th Annual Baltic Management Development Association (BMDA) Conference “If ever...: Growing Tomorrow's Leaders” will take place on 8-9 May 2008 in ISM University of Management and Economics in Vilnius, Lithuania. ISM campus in Vilnius is located in a historic building in the Old Town, a former Basilian monastery. The complex of buildings, which was repaired thoroughly and with respect to the historic heritage, has again become the centre of science, like several centuries ago.

Considering recent developments in the labour market the question of succession and sustainability is one of the key issues that has to be faced by today's leaders. How do we attract, retain, involve, and take care of our (key) people? How do we motivate and lead the “new generation”? What are the key aspects leaders have to keep in mind to ensure that there will be suitable people to continue the leaders' work when their time is due? These questions and more will be covered during the conference which focus is oriented to both – to organizational and individual approach, on managing critical and vital aspects of succession planning both in schools and companies. What has been done so far and what could and should be done in the future? What are the lessons schools could learn from companies and vice versa?

BMDA will weld together famous keynote speakers from academia, such as Professor Peter Lorange, President of IMD Lausanne world-renowned current management thinker Dr Ichak Adizes, and other leading experts on improving the performance of business and government organizations.

About BMDA

Carrying out the idea to create a regional management development network, initiated by Universities, Business schools, individual professors and business professionals from the Baltic countries, the BMDA was founded at the end of 2002. From the very beginning the association started to induce the quality of management development in the Baltic region and beyond through promoting research, offering educational services and networking opportunities for management development institutions and business enterprises.

“Bridging East and West” became the main motto of BMDA. By establishing a virtual bridge between East and West Management schools, especially taking into account enriching nature of collaboration of different scientific cultures, BMDA provides a unique opportunity for it's members to share the experience of transformation, rapid growth and managing organizations for stabilization that is the main feature of the new EU member states (including Baltic countries' economic and management challenges). The focus on Baltic region management development is also well kept.

BMDA currently unites more than 50 members from 18 countries – Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Finland, Russia, Slovenia, UK, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Poland, Georgia, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Ukraine, Denmark and Croatia.
