Commission Regulation, EC No 2521/98 (Official Journal L 315, 25.11.98, p 12), has been published. The requirements of this new Regulation, which relate to fat content declarations for spreadable fats and the associated method of verification, are directly applicable in all Member States and became effective from 1 January 1999. However, further amendment of the Spreadable Fats (Marketing Standards) Regulations 1995 is required to ensure enforcement and execution provisions are included in national legislation. In this respect, the Ministry has circulated Draft Spreadable Fats (Marketing Standards) (Amendment) Regulations 1999.
