Ashford's Dictionary of Industrial Chemicals

Keywords Publication, Chemicals

The second edition of Ashford's Dictionary of Industrial Chemicals is now available. It is an update and expansion of the edition published in 1994, with new entries in all product areas. The coverage of drugs has been greatly enhanced and the information on dyestuffs and intermediates extensively reworked. The book is presented as a computer file, downloaded from CD-ROM. This new format makes it both quick and easy to find information on a particular chemical.

The dictionary is intended for people who work in the chemical industry. It has over 8,300 different entries and information on virtually all of the industrial chemicals used today. It covers plastics, resins, solvents, lubricants, pesticides, drugs, dyes, explosives, curing agents, additives and surfactants, as well as the intermediate and commodity chemicals used in their manufacture. Each entry has information on the manufacturing routes used industrially and the raw materials employed.

When the first edition of the book came out, many readers asked if the dictionary was available in computer format, so that full keyword searches could be made. This edition answers that need. The work is heavily cross-referenced, which makes it is easy to trace a chemical's family tree back to the primary raw materials, to search for by-products and co-products, or to learn how a product is used in downstream applications.
