According to Elf Atochem with the properties offered by Rilsan polyamide 11, water technology specialists can be assured of outstanding quality and durability for pipes and connections which also preserve water quality.

When coated with Rilsan, which has been in use for the past 25 years in water treatment plants, components of all shapes (flanges, cross-joints, elbow joints, reverse elbow joints, breeching-pieces, etc.), whether new or renovated, are said to enjoy outstanding protection against corrosion. Steel, cast iron and aluminium are protected from the toughest aggressions from marine environments, hydrocarbons, and chemicals such as solvents. In addition, Rilsan has a high molecular weight, and this, it is believed, makes for exceptional resistance to impact and abrasion as well as a very low friction coefficient, thereby improving the flow of fluids.

Rilsan coatings claim ease of application; available as ready-to-use powders with a very long shelf-life, they require no curing. Their application on pipes and fittings in the water sector has been approved by two French standards: NFA 49-713 and NFA 49-714. Two other standards, one European and the other American, are also currently being drafted.
