About the Authors
Crystal Eddins is an Assistant Professor of Africana Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is the author of Rituals, Runaways, and the Haitian Revolution: Collective Action in the African Diaspora (Cambridge University Press, 2021) and has published in the Journal of Haitian Studies and Gender & History.
Ashley Jackson, MSW, is a PhD student at Washington University in St. Louis, Brown School of Social Work. Her research focuses on connections between historical and contemporary patterns of police violence and the impact of police contact on the mental health, legal, and racial socialization patterns of youth.
Andrzej Kwiatkowski (PhD) is a Lecturer in Economics and a member of staff within the Economic Studies discipline in the School since 2010. Currently he is Head of Economic Studies and Programme Leader for MSc International Business.
Lisa Leitz is the Delp-Wilkinson Professor and Department Chair of Peace Studies at Chapman University. Her book, Fighting for Peace: Veterans and Military Families in the Anti-Iraq War Movement, won the 2015 American Sociological Association's Peace, War and Social Conflict Outstanding Book Award. She serves as the Series Editor of Research in Social Movements, Conflicts and Change.
Jonathan J.B. Mijs (PhD, Harvard University, 2017) an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Boston University. He studies how people perceive, explain, and evaluate social inequality. Previous work has been published in Social Problems, Socio-Economic Review, and Sociology of Education and has featured in The Atlantic, The Washington Post, and Financial Times.
Hassan Molana is an Emeritus Professor of Economics at the University of Dundee. He has held positions at Essex University, Southampton University, and Glasgow University, and has been a fellow at Aarhus University and Aberdeen University. His research concerns issues regarding economics of globalization.
Maria De Jesus Mora is an Assistant Professor in the Sociology, Gerontology, and Gender Studies department at California State University, Stanislaus. Her research centers on race, immigration, and social movements. She studies how racialized and immigrant groups mobilize against threats and the long-term organizing outcomes for immigrant rights social movements.
Felipe Sánchez-Barría (PhD in Sociology) is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Institute of Sociology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His main research interests concern political participation, the protest–repression nexus, and social movements in authoritarian and democratic settings. His work has appeared in American Behavioral Scientist and Revista de Sociologia e Política (Brazil).
Mehdi Shiva (PhD) is an Economist at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford. His research is around public economics, innovation, and sustainable development. His past experience working across sectors includes research fellow at University of Dundee, research director of an entrepreneurial company in Luxembourg, visiting fellow at UNDP, and some consultancy roles.
Callie Watkins Liu (PhD) is an intersectional and critical race scholar with particular expertise in the fields of Sociology, Social Policy and Community Engagement. She is a Visiting Research Scholar at Brandeis University and the Director of JEDI Curriculum, Pedagogy and Faculty Support in the Office of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) at the MGH Institute of Health Professions.
