Bendix builds a six‐machine FMS
Abstract
Examines the progressive introduction of a large FMS by Bendix Heavy Vehicles. Discusses the reasons for installing FMS: the need for batch production, reduction of labour content, and reduction of in‐process inventory, as well as details of the system itself, in particular scheduling and tool wear measurement. Concludes that FMS has improved quality, reduced lead time and has the added benefit of giving customers the perception of the company as a technology leader.
