Research for Food Safety
Abstract
Focuses on food safety, food quality and nutrition and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food′s (MAFF) responsibility to maintain a complete awareness of developments in order that standards may be maintained. Reviews MAFF priorities and strategy for the period 1992‐1994. The attention is placed on ensuring that food is safe to eat, with consumers protected from all avoidable risk. The research requirement is wide ranging and covers matters such as microbiological safety, chemical safety, nutrient content, adulteration and food authenticity. A major theme is the development of expertise in risk management and the need to be able to deal scientifically with emerging issues.
