What about The Teachers Survival Guide 2? It has the rather lacklustre four chapters from Getting Organised. Those of “Time management” and “Stress management” are standard management material and “Career management” and “Alternative career management” offer little new.

However, the book is saved by the three chapters by Barbara Gray. These chapters should be compulsory reading for all new teachers and existing teachers wishing to review their practice. The chapter on “Creating a positive learning environment” is clearly written by an expert practitioner. The chapter avoids gimmicks and short‐term solutions and shows many practical examples of how to build positive behaviour and a positive learning environment. However, Gray does deal with the flip side when things go wrong and addresses “Managing difficult situations” in an excellent chapter. This chapter is written with a clear analysis and a series of realistic strategies to deal with problems. The following chapters on “Your professional role” provide valuable advice for those at the start of their professional career. The book has some gems as outlined above and is worth purchasing for this reason alone.
