Abstract

Purpose

This paper seeks to argue that when managing strategically it is important for leaders to view situations from multiple perspectives.

Design/methodology/approach

Discusses and gives examples to illustrate how one can consider situations from different vantage points.

Findings

It is helpful for library directors to consider situations from the multiple perspectives, such as from structural, human resource, political, and cultural points of view.

Practical implications

This provides concepts to be considered when a leader attempts to move forward a library's priorities.

Originality/value

Hopefully, this article will motivate librarians to use different ways to think about how to better manage their libraries.
