Abstract

Cycle‐time reduction, an important practice in total quality management, helps in putting higher quality products and services to the marketplace faster. Reduction of the machining time for pin bearing grinding of an auto crankshaft is studied. A statistically designed experiment is employed to investigate the effects of various factors on the quality characteristic and the machining time of the pin bearing. Factors, which are not significant for the quality characteristic, are set at levels for a shorter cycle‐time.
