Abstract

Purpose

The goal of this paper is twofold: (1) to investigate how relatedness-supportive corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives influence brand happiness among retail bank customers through a mediating mechanism of customer participation in brand CSR movements; and (2) to analyze how relatedness-supportive CSR initiatives’ effect may be moderated by cause choice and customer-brand goal congruence.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were collected from 379 retail bank customers via a paper-and-pencil survey. The hypothesized moderated-mediation effects were tested using Hayes’ (2013) PROCESS (Model 3, Model 4 and Model 7).

Findings

Results show that relatedness-supportive CSR initiatives increase brand happiness among retail bank customers through increasing their participation in brand CSR movements. Furthermore, the use of customer determination in the choice of cause enhances the positive effect of relatedness-supportive CSR initiatives on customer participation in brand CSR movements. Similarly, when customers choose the cause and the customer-brand goal is congruent, the effect of relatedness-supportive CSR initiatives on brand happiness is stronger than when the customer-brand goal is incongruent and cause choice is not aligned.

Originality/value

This research is grounded on the relationship motivation theory (RMT), basic psychological needs theory and self-congruity theory to unpack the relationship between relatedness-supportive CSR programs on brand happiness. Integrating three research streams (i.e. CSR, brand management and retail banking), this study proposes customer participation in brand CSR movements as a novel mechanism and sheds light on how relatedness-supportive CSR interplays with cause choice/customer-brand goal congruence to affect brand happiness among retail bank customers in emerging markets.

Abstract

Purpose

A proliferation of articles surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic is calling for new insights through review. This paper aims to bibliometrically analyze the current progress of research around hospitality and tourism to define the research directions on herd immunity and the prevention of disease under the “new normal.”

Design/methodology/approach

This paper analyzed 326 articles regarding COVID-19 published in SSCI hospitality, leisure and tourism journals in 2020 and 2021 by combining manual analysis and bibliometrics to reveal research topics and to gain insight into research structures.

Findings

The results of this paper summarized topics related to stakeholders’ mentality and behavior, responses of travel suppliers to the COVID-19 pandemic, economic impact and demand forecasting, social issues of human rights and racism and reflection on tourism and transformation of the industry. More research is called for in the future to focus on a better response to the crisis, including crisis management education and training and the improving the resilience of small- and medium-sized enterprises.

Research limitations/implications

A three-dimensional consideration was proposed to promote the sustainable development of hospitality and tourism.

Originality/value

In the “new normal” phase of herd immunity and disease prevention, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first paper that provides an up-to-date systematic overview of the evolution of COVID-19 research in tourism and hospitality and encourages more conceptual, practical and futuristic studies.

Abstract

Purpose

Au stud bump bonding technology is an effective means to realize heterogeneous integration of commercial chips in the 2.5D electronic packaging. The purpose of this paper is to study the long-term reliability of the Au stud bump treated by four different high temperature storage times (200°C for 0, 100, 200 and 300 h).

Design/methodology/approach

The bonding strength and the fracture behavior are investigated by chip shear test. The experiment is further studied by microstructural characterization approaches such as scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive spectrometer and so on.

Findings

It is recognized that there were mainly three typical fracture models during the chip shear test among all the Au stud bump samples treated by high temperature storage. For solder bump before aging, the fracture occurred at the interface between the Cu pad and the Au stud bump. As the aging time increased, the fracture mainly occurred inside the Au stud bump at 200°C for 100 and 200 h. When aging time increased to 300 h, it is found that the fracture transferred to the interface between the Au stud bump and the Al Pad.

Originality/value

In addition, the bonding strength also changed with the high temperature storage time increasing. The bonding strength does not change linearly with the high temperature storage time increasing but decreases first and then increases. The investigation shows that the formation of the intermetallic compounds because of the reaction between the Au and Al atoms plays a key role on the bonding strength and fracture behavior variation.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to explore the consumer perceptions of cognition and intention to visit pilot zone of international medical tourism as emerging, developed medical tourism destinations.

Design/methodology/approach

Using a survey-based quantitative method, based on a survey of 439 tourists who have cross-border travel experience, the partial least squares approach was performed to test the hypotheses.

Findings

The results show that internal factors had a stronger influence on destination image compared to external factors. Among different factors, preferential policies had the greatest impact on intention to visit. Perceived quality had a stronger effect on intention to visit than preference. Geographical distance had a varied effect, with those furthest away in Northeast China showing greater intention to visit compared to closer regions.

Originality/value

This study explores the impact of multidimensional destination perception on medical tourists’ behavioural intention in emerging destinations by integrating the push-pull theory and theory of planned behaviour and tests how geographical distance affects intention to visit emerging destinations. Using China international medical tourism pilot area as a typical case of medical tourism emerging destinations for empirical analysis. This research offers guidance for branding and marketing strategies, contributes to a deeper understanding of medical tourists’ destination choices, enriches the theoretical explanation of emerging destination choice in medical tourism and provides valuable insights for destination recovery.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to present the steady dual solutions on three-dimensional flow and heat transfer of nanofluid over a permeable non-linearly shrinking surface with two-order velocity slips conditions. Boundary layer assumption is considered in the mathematical modelling. Authors comprehend from previous studies and papers that the shrinking surfaces are extremely important in current engineering and environmental systems.

Design/methodology/approach

Using appropriate similarity variables, the full partial differential equations (PDF) are modified into a specific set of ordinary (similar) differential equations (ODE). The resulting non-linear ordinary differential system is then solved both analytically for some particular cases and numerically for the general case using the function bvp4c from MATLAB for characteristic values of the parameters which govern the equations. The transformed mathematical model is analysed using the bvp4c procedure. Based on the given assumptions, this study is able to produce multiple solutions of the problem.

Findings

The ordinary (similarity) differential equations have two branches solutions, upper and lower branch solutions, given some interval of shrinking and velocity slip parameters. The authors consider here a temporal stability analysis, as they want to establish which of the solutions are stable and which are not. In a distinct paragraph, the authors discuss in detail and present in a graphical manner the effects of shrinking and second-order slip flow model on the skin friction coefficient, surface wall heat flux and dimensionless velocity and temperature profiles. The analysis reveals that the second order slip has a big influence on the flow and heat transfer characteristics.

Originality/value

The present discoveries are unique and truly new for the research of the three-dimensional stretching/shrinking forced convection flow and heat transfer nanofluids. The nanofluid is a water-based nanofluid (H2O), which contains one type of nanoparticles, namely, copper (Cu). Of course, the analysis can be further extended considering other types of nanoparticles such as alumina (Al2O3). The authors assume that the thermal equilibrium is reached for the base fluid together with the suspended nanoparticles and that the nanoparticles are uniform in dimension and form.
