Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to compare environmental performance of two shackle insulator manufacturing enterprises in India by evaluating and quantifying the life cycle environmental impacts in these enterprises using ISO 14040 guidelines.
Design/methodology/approach
All relevant life cycle phases – raw material, manufacturing, transportation and disposal – are considered. Primary inventory data for the two enterprises are collected through observations of processes at the sites. Ecoinvent 3.0 database is used as secondary data source. Process flow models are developed using Umberto software. ReCiPe impact assessment methodology is adopted to calculate environmental impacts in terms of endpoint categories of ecosystem quality, human health and resource availability; and midpoint categories of climate change, fossil depletion, human toxicity, metal depletion, ozone depletion, terrestrial acidification and water depletion.
Findings
This study has found that manufacturing phase followed by raw material extraction and transportation phases are responsible for most of the environmental impacts. This study also found that raw materials used in glaze preparation (manganese and ferrite), electricity, heavy fuel oil (C-9) and cotton have high environmental impacts in the manufacturing phase.
Research limitations/implications
The limitation of this study is that most of the inventory data are collected from only two manufacturing plants.
Practical implications
The researchers/enterprises can use the knowledge body for modelling and result comparison under different conditions. The enterprises can do the micro analysis of environmental effects of processes to improve environmental as well as economic performance. The government agencies can use the data for policy development and deployment.
Originality/value
The main contribution of the research is the creation of a knowledge body in the area of ceramic product environmental impacts. The paper provides inventory for the life cycle assessment (LCA) of shackle insulators using primary source (measured values) as no secondary data source is available for the shackle insulators. The inventory and results of this study can be used as reference for the future LCA studies in ceramic industry.

Purpose
COVID-19 not only has impacted adversely the health infrastructure, taking away lives of millions of people but it has also crippled the economy. The worst effected were food supply chain due to restrictions imposed on operations of shops and retail outlets. The consumers were suffering due to lack of supply. Similarly, agriculture produce were getting wasted due to lack of cold storage.
Methodology
In this case we have proposed how a mobile-based application solution during COVID lockdown can successfully transform the livelihood of rural farmers in the state of Maharashtra (India), a state worst affected by the pandemic.
Result
The technology-integrated supply chain model jointly developed by financial institutions, self-help groups (SHGs) and NGOs has enabled direct selling of fresh produces by rural women farmers to urban large residential societies at their doorsteps. It has provided a solution of municipality waste management by converting the waste to compost, getting them collected and used in the farmlands.
Implications
It will help the urban consumers to have the continuous supply of fresh vegetables and fruits available at their doorsteps, and keep a track of transport of foods from farm to fork. The farmers will be able to get better price for their produce. The model will also contribute towards circular economy (CE) through citizen partnership.

Abstract
GMR Infrastructure Limited (GMRIL) had to make a decision on its continued role in the 555.48 km Kishangarh Udaipur Ahmedabad (KUA) Expressway Project, India's then longest road public-private partnership (PPP) project. GMR had terminated the contract citing NHAI's failure in fulfilling Conditions Precedent (CP) of providing (i) environment clearance (EC), (ii) revised toll free notification and (iii) 80% of required land. The case intends to educate the reader on the concessionaire-authority dynamics in typical Indian infrastructure PPPs. Taking into account its internal strategy, the extant unfavourable investment climate, the Central Government's steps to revive private interest in the highways sector and NHAI's quick turnaround in fulfilling CP, GMR had to decide how to respond.
