Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the emerging and innovative technologies which integrate together to form smart libraries. Smart libraries are the new generation libraries, which work with the amalgamation of smart technologies, smart users and smart services.
Design/methodology/approach
An extensive review of literature on “smart libraries” was carried to ascertain the emerging technologies in the smart library domain. Clarivate Analytic’s Web of Science and Sciverse Scopus were explored initially to ascertain the extent of literature published on Smart Libraries and their varied aspects. Literature was searched against various keywords like smart libraries, smart technologies, Internet of Things (IoT), Electronic resource management (ERM), Data mining, Artificial intelligence (AI), Ambient intelligence, Blockchain Technology and Augmented Reality. Later on, the works citing the literature on Smart Libraries were also explored to visualize a broad spectrum of emerging concepts about this growing trend in libraries.
Findings
The study confirms that smart libraries are becoming smarter with the emerging smart technologies, which enhances their working capabilities and satisfies the users associated with them. Implementing the smart technologies in the libraries has bridged the gap between the services offered by the libraries and the rapidly changing and competing needs of the humans.
Practical implications
The paper highlights the emerging smart technologies in smart libraries and how they influence the efficiency of libraries in terms of users, services and technological integration.
Originality/value
The paper tries to highlight the current technologies in the smart library set-ups for the efficient working of library set-ups.

Purpose
Data mining along with its varied technologies like numerical mining, textual mining, multimedia mining, web mining, sentiment analysis and big data mining proves itself as an emerging field and manifests itself in the form of different techniques such as information mining; big data mining; big data mining and Internet of Things (IoT); and educational data mining. This paper aims to discuss how these technologies and techniques are used to derive information and, eventually, knowledge from data.
Design/methodology/approach
An extensive review of literature on data mining and its allied techniques was carried to ascertain the emerging procedures and techniques in the domain of data mining. Clarivate Analytic’s Web of Science and Sciverse Scopus were explored to discover the extent of literature published on Data Mining and its varied facets. Literature was searched against various keywords such as data mining; information mining; big data; big data and IoT; and educational data mining. Further, the works citing the literature on data mining were also explored to visualize a broad gamut of emerging techniques about this growing field.
Findings
The study validates that knowledge discovery in databases has rendered data mining as an emerging field; the data present in these databases paves the way for data mining techniques and analytics. This paper provides a unique view about the usage of data, and logical patterns derived from it, how new procedures, algorithms and mining techniques are being continuously upgraded for their multipurpose use for the betterment of human life and experiences.
Practical implications
The paper highlights different aspects of data mining, its different technological approaches, and how these emerging data technologies are used to derive logical insights from data and make data more meaningful.
Originality/value
The paper tries to highlight the current trends and facets of data mining.

Abstract
Purpose
This research aims to analyse the current state of research on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in libraries by examining document type, publication year, keywords, country and research methods. The overarching aim is to enrich the existing knowledge of AI-powered libraries by identifying the prevailing research gaps, providing direction for future research and deepening the understanding needed for effective policy development.
Design/methodology/approach
This study used advanced tools such as bibliometric and network analysis, taking the existing literature from the SCOPUS database extending to the year 2022. This study analysed the application of AI in libraries by identifying and selecting relevant keywords, extracting the data from the database, processing the data using advanced bibliometric visualisation tools and presenting and discussing the results. For this comprehensive research, the search strategy was approved by a panel of computer scientists and librarians.
Findings
The majority of research concerning the application of AI in libraries has been conducted in the last three years, likely driven by the fourth industrial revolution. Results show that highly cited articles were published by Emerald Group Holdings Ltd. However, the application of AI in libraries is a developing field, and the study highlights the need for more research in areas such as Digital Humanities, Machine Learning, Robotics, Data Mining and Big Data in Academic Libraries.
Research limitations/implications
This study has excluded papers written in languages other than English that address domains beyond libraries, such as medicine, health, education, science and technology.
Practical implications
This article offers insight for managers and policymakers looking to implement AI in libraries. By identifying clusters and themes, the article would empower managers to plan ahead, mitigate potential drawbacks and seize opportunities for sustainable growth.
Originality/value
Previous studies on the application of AI in libraries have taken a broad approach, but this study narrows its focus to research published explicitly in Library and Information Science (LIS) journals. This makes it unique compared to previous research in the field.

Purpose
Scientific advances and the emergence of a wide range of broadband services have resulted in the internet developing as a critical component of most peoples’ daily lives. The rapid development of the global economy and improvements to the information network speed and reliability have driven a radical evolution of the concept of “library.” Modern information technologies have not only drastically altered the functionality and accessibility of libraries, but it is no longer a matter of the library community to use scientific and technological innovation ideas and techniques to promote its business. The sample of this study was distributed to the consumers of the Guangdong Intelligent Library for the questionnaire.
Design/methodology/approach
A total of 520 questionnaires were distributed, returning 375 validresponses for an effective recovery rate of 72%.

Perceptual ease of use has a positive and direct impact on perceptual usefulness. Perceptual ease of use has a positive and direct impact on attitude. Perceptual usefulness has a positive and direct impact on attitude. Perceptual usefulness has a positive direct impact on behavioral intentions. Attitude has a positive and direct impact on behavioral intentions. Subjective norms have a positive and direct impact on behavioral intentions. Originality/value
Based on the survey results and analysis, recommendations are made to help smart libraries integrate artificial intelligence methods to provide highly attractive service offerings in an extremely competitive environment.
