Abstract

Purpose

This study examined the role of brand experience (BE) dimensions (behavioural, intellectual, sensory and affective) to predict electronic word of mouth (e-WoM) through the mediating effect of brand love (BL) in the Egyptian organic cosmetics context.

Design/methodology/approach

In accordance with the non-probability convenience sampling procedure and through an online survey, the study collected 312 responses from female consumers who have used Egyptian organic cosmetics brands regularly within the past two years.

Findings

The findings revealed that BE has a significant direct positive effect on BL. BE has also had a significant direct positive effect on e-WoM. In addition, BL has a significant direct positive effect on e-WoM. Finally, BL is a significant mediator between BE and e-WoM.

Practical implications

This study offered several managerial recommendations. By considering BE as a tool, organic cosmetics' brand owners and managers can effectively develop and implement various experiential marketing strategies to create a love for that brand and develop long-term relationships with consumers, which in turn will lead to positive e-WOM.

Originality/value

This is a new study that uses Fournier’s relationship theory to investigate BE on BL to predict e-WOM in the context of Egyptian organic cosmetics brands. New insights are provided for the mediating effect of BL between BE and e-WoM in the context of Egyptian organic cosmetics brands.

Abstract

Purpose

Avatars, which are used as a technology and marketing tactic, can embody consumer-facing employees and mimic their real-life roles on companies' websites, thereby playing a key role in enhancing the relationships between consumers and brands in the online environment. Academics and practitioners have increasingly acknowledged the significance of the consumer-brand relationship in both traditional and online contexts. However, the impersonal nature of the online environment is considered to be a hindrance to the development of these relationships. Despite the importance of this technology, little attention has been paid to the investigation of the avatar concept from a marketing perspective. This paper explores the nature of the avatar concept, including its main characteristics, dimensions, and conditions as well as the attitudinal and behavioural consequences of avatar users.

Design/methodology/approach

Adopting the qualitative design, a taxonomy was developed from interviews. In total, 42 interviews were conducted with current university students. 30 participants participated in the exploratory interviews. A total of 12 interviews were conducted during the in-depth stage based on findings in the preceding research.

Findings

Based on the qualitative data analysis, a taxonomy was developed. The idea of the taxonomy is summarized in that different dimensions of the avatar are considered the main base (first phase) of the taxonomy. There are consequential three parts: the attitudinal consequences related to the website; the attitudinal consequences related to the brand; the behaviours towards the brand. These behaviours represent the final phase of the taxonomy.

Originality/value

By developing a taxonomy of using avatars on brands' websites, the authors advance the understanding consumer-brands relationships. Using avatars' verbal interactions helps in shaping consumers' cognitive, affective, attitudinal and behavioural responses and add vital empirical evidence to the increasing body of research and practices involving avatar usage in the interactive marketing area.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the impact of destination accessibility on pro-tourism behaviour directly and indirectly through environmental impacts and/or affective destination image from residents’ point of view. It also investigates the moderated mediation effect of residency length in the indirect relationships between destination accessibility and pro-tourism behaviour through the negative environmental impacts or affective destination image.

Design/methodology/approach

A quantitative method was applied. More specifically, the survey approach was found to be the most effective method of data collection for this research. In total, 351 questionnaires were collected through an online survey from people who currently live in Alexandria. The questionnaire was translated into Arabic while adhering to back-translation guidelines. SPSS and AMOS software were used to analyse the collected data.

Findings

The results showed that residents’ destination accessibility affects both destination image and destination environment but does not affect the pro-tourism behaviour. It indirectly affects the pro-tourism behaviour through only affective destination image. Residency length plays a moderation role in this indirect relationship.

Practical implications

The current study can help policymakers, governments and tourism institutions to make decisions. Policymakers can use these results to adopt a comprehensive policy that encompasses different interested parties in tourism, in order to ensure that tourism development efforts will succeed. The government can also join hands with tourism institutions to mitigate the negative impacts of tourism in order to balance the negative and positive impacts of tourism.

Originality/value

The study contributes to the existing literature by highlighting the importance of destination accessibility to support tourism behaviours in domestic tourism.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to explore the pandemic's opportunities for enhancing the environmental practices of the food and beverages green supply chains and its effect on the supply chains' viability by exploring the relationship between fear and uncertainty of COVID-19, food and beverages green supply chain management (F&B-GSCM) and supply chains’ viability based on the two dimensions (robustness and resilience) and examine the moderating effect of innovative technology adoption like big data analysis (BDA) capabilities and blockchain technologies (BCT) on this relationship.

Design/methodology/approach

This study adopted partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) on a sample of 362 F&B small and medium enterprises (SMEs)’ managers in the Egyptian market for data analysis and hypothesis testing.

Findings

The empirical results show that the fear and uncertainty of the pandemic have a significant positive effect on green supply chain management (GSCM). Also, BDA moderates the relationship between fear and uncertainty of COVID-19 and GSCM. However, BCT do not moderate that relationship. Similarly, GSCM positively affects supply chain viability dimensions (robustness and resilience). In addition, F&B-GSCM significantly mediates the relationship between fear and uncertainty of COVID-19 and supply chain viability dimensions (robustness and resilience).

Practical implications

Food and beverages (F&B) managers could develop a consistent strategy for applying BCT and BDA to provide clear information and focus on their procedures to meet their stakeholders' needs during COVID-19. Governments and managers should develop a consistent strategy to apply food and beverages supply chains (F&B SCs)' green practices to achieve F&B SCs' resilience and robustness, especially during the pandemic.

Originality/value

The Egyptian F&B SCs have been linked directly with many European countries as a main source of many basic food and agriculture products, which have been affected lately by the pandemic. Based on the “social-cognitive,” “stakeholder” and “resource-based view” theories, this study sheds light on the optimistic side of the COVID-19 pandemic, as it also brings the concepts of F&B-GSCM, SC resilience, SC robustness and innovative technologies back into the light, which helps in solving F&B SC issues and helps to achieve their viability.

Abstract

Purpose

This study objective is twofold. This study aims to present an institutional analysis of the implications of job localization programs in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, such as Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Qatar. Further, it highlights the impacts of these programs on the accounting profession.

Design/methodology/approach

This study is based primarily on the desktop research method, where data is collected from the review of previous studies, published data on Internet Websites and reports released by International organizations such as the United Nations. In addition, the study benefitted from conducting six interviews with government officials from GCC countries. Theoretically, this study draws upon insights from the institutional logics theory to discern higher-order institutions deriving job localization decisions in the GCC region.

Findings

This paper explained how job localization policies in the GCC region are informed by three central logics: economic, socio-political and professional. Despite contributing to achieving some socio-political goals for policymakers, these policies could have serious consequences for the practice of the professions and, hence, the local business environment. Besides, this paper highlighted the serious localization policies' impacts on the accounting profession, especially the quality of the workforce (accountants) and their job readiness.

Practical implications

This study highlights the various implications of job localization policies for locals, foreigners, public and private sector entities and governments. Besides, it has recommended some actions to mitigate the negative influences of such policies on the surrounding society.

Originality/value

This study contributes to the literature by following an interpretative approach in explaining the localization of the accounting profession from an institutional perspective by bringing new evidence from GCC emerging markets.

Abstract

Purpose

Providing high-quality service for airline companies cannot be overstated, as it directly impacts their survival and competitiveness. Hence, there is an increasing need to measure loyalty in the air transport industry. Loyal customers are highly valued as they are less price-sensitive and require minimal communication efforts. Despite this, there is limited knowledge about the factors that influence a passenger’s level of loyalty towards an airline company. Therefore, understanding the precursors of loyalty is essential. This research investigates the serial mediation effect of consumer brand identification (CBI) and perceived value on the relationship between service quality and loyalty.

Design/methodology/approach

In this research, quality is related to loyalty through value and CBI. A conclusive research design was adopted to determine whether value and CBI have a serial mediating effect on the quality-loyalty link. The research framework includes a three-path mediation model.

Findings

Based on the analysis of 406 questionnaires, the study concludes that a serial mediation effect of CBI and perceived value on the quality-loyalty relationship exists. The research results indicate that CBI has a greater influence on improving customer loyalty than perceived value.

Originality/value

This study contributes to limited research on the serial mediating effect of value and CBI in the quality-loyalty relationship. It also provides empirical evidence on the determinants of loyalty as part of the Turkish aviation industry. This study highlights the significance of CBI as a critical factor for airlines to maintain their competitiveness in the market.
