The success of the initial stage of a management information system in a described project suggests that such a system is the logical vehicle to implement operations management concepts. Management information systems should continue to incorporate proven quantitative techniques and apply these to production management problems.

The purpose of this research is to identify the effective criteria and determine the required infrastructure for the repair of drilling rigs.

The research was carried out through questionnaires and interviews with experts, including consultants, contractors and operators. A long list of the required infrastructure, dividing into three groups of vital, necessary and support, was prepared and compared with the productivity criteria.

The results show that it is better to prepare and upgrade the vital, necessary and supportive equipment in the shipyards, including refrigeration workshop, cofferdam for repairing spudcans and residential and educational places.

These results are helpful for the industries working on jack-ups and the countries having similar conditions to enable them to use their assets in an optimum way.

Oil drilling rigs' repair and maintenance (R&M) services are essential because of affecting the economy. Furthermore, about 25% of Iran’s oil drilling rigs are jack-up, needing overhauls every five years. Other research has investigated how to repair jack-ups, their incidents, their R&M industry market and, only in some cases mentioned, cost and time criteria. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the criteria and study the infrastructures in the shipyards.

The focus of this research paper is to briefly trace the historical development of Operations Management (OM) and Operations Research (OR). The problems and challenges resulting from the convergence between the two fields in recent years are evaluated and some recommendations are offered to both OM and OR academicians and practitioners.

Research into rural entrepreneurship continues to expand, albeit slowly. A common theme in the literature is the creation of value and its extraction from the environment. Rural entrepreneurship potentially covers a wide gamut of activity including the illegal. Also studies into agricultural entrepreneurship particularly traditional accounts of “rurality” tend to emphasise the rural idyll. Most studies tend to concentrate on the application of entrepreneurial theory to issues of rurality and as such exist on the margins of entrepreneurship research – being primarily studies into rurality and not entrepreneurship per se. Rarely do such studies impinge on issues of illegal enterprise that shatter this rural idyll. As a consequence, rural and farming rogues have been neglected as subjects of research. Yet, in the present perceived climate of economic decline in agricultural income, extracting value from the environment can be difficult and can give rise to illegal enterprise in the countryside as well as an increase in the prevalence of farming rogues. The case story, presented in this paper relates to one such illegal enterprise, namely the illegal slaughter of sheep for the Muslim “halal” market, known to those in the know as the smokies trade. Using the case story methodology this paper explores an issue of contemporary illegal enterprise in the countryside telling an important story that is otherwise difficult to evidence empirically.

An unusual and refreshing way of exploring the main themes ‐ a discussion between Bill and Jack on tour in the islands ‐ forms the debate. Explores the concepts of control, necessary procedures, fraud and corruption, supporting systems, creativity and chaos, and building a corporate control facility.

The purpose of this paper is to consider why entrepreneurship theorising has become fragmented and how the research problem might be resolved.

The authors first examine how entrepreneurial constructs reflect only part of what we “mean” by the construct to argue that we use different social constructions. This explains why theories are fragmented. But the authors then ask how we might use and reconcile this diversity, pointing to the utility of the constructs as part of a complex whole. The authors discuss entrepreneurship as a complex adaptive system showing how connections and relatedness help explain the power of entrepreneurship to use and adapt to change.

The authors' proposition of entrepreneurial endeavours as a complex adaptive system provides a fresh theoretical platform to examine aspects of entrepreneurship and improve theorising.

The authors argue that this idea of connecting can also be used at the level of practice – how the connections that entrepreneurs use may help to explain some of what goes on in entrepreneurial practice.

The paper's contribution is a relatively novel way of connecting diverse theorising.

This article aims to propose that increased guidance on the implementation of social marketing principles for sustainability issues can advance both implementation and empirical evaluation. The primary goal of this paper is to ignite further empirical investigation of social marketing for sustainability by first presenting benchmark criteria for one social marketing model – community-based social marketing (CBSM) – and second, applying this framework to the case study of musician Jack Johnson’s “All at Once” (AAO) campaign.

The research design is twofold. First, based on Doug McKenzie-Mohr’s CBSM model, a series of 21 benchmarks for assessing the key components of an effective CBSM initiative was developed. Second, this tool was applied to information gathered from Jack Johnson’s extensive outreach promoting AAO initiatives including reports, videos as well as interviews and in-person meetings with the Jack Johnson team.

Application of the benchmark criteria to the Jack Johnson case study showed that seven out of the 21 benchmarks were integrated into the AAO campaign; seven were partially integrated and seven were not integrated in the program’s design. In particular, the use of commitments, incentives, norms and social diffusion was clearly present as was a final evaluation of the full-scale implementation of the campaign.

The CBSM benchmarks are meant as a starting point to further assess and compare the effectiveness of CBSM initiatives. Further research should be done to explore how criteria should be weighted and which of the 21 principles need to be present in the design and implementation of an effective CBSM program.

THE A300B employs fully powered flying controls, operated by hydraulic power, with no reversion to manual control. The hydraulic power supplies are ‘triplexed’ to the banks of three jacks at each primary control surface. Jack sizes are chosen so that full control over the flight envelope is available with only two hydraulic systems working. Should a further system have to be shut down for any reason, the one remaining set of jacks will still provide sufficient power for control of the aircraft, including landing.
