This chapter of the book aims to achieve sustainability and productivity in light of the interaction between managers and engineers in a lean and agile supply chain management system in today’s organizations. The main innovation of this chapter is the use of the balanced scorecard (BSC) model and fuzzy analysis network process (FANP) to create a suitable platform for the realization of this interaction between managers and engineers and to identify exactly which expert system is ideal for the main purpose. Indeed, this chapter introduces its readers to the application of strategic management tools such as the BSC accompanied by FANP in the elements of supply chain management where data analysis of lean and agile networks in supply chain management can create a competitive advantage in the organization.

This paper explores the emergence of cryptocurrencies like Dogecoin and Shiba Inu in the “crypto-carnival” and their ties to the Trickster archetype. It discusses the concept of tokens and the surge of tokenization in the crypto-summer of 2020–2021. This paper explains how Shiba Inu became a purely recursive token with no external measure of value. It also explores the creation of egregores, which are created intentionally or unintentionally by groups of people who share a common belief or interest. Finally, this paper discusses how digital assets born out of a countermovement may eventually fall prey to the same system they were trying to escape from, using the carnivalesque to trigger the emergence of an egregore that brings monetary value to worthless objects.

In this chapter, we explore the intricate relationships between young disabled children, their families, institutional settings, and disability services in Canada, with an emphasis on the challenges stemming from unstable custodial dynamics and governmental interference. Drawing on data from a 9-year longitudinal Institutional Ethnography across three provinces and one territory, we analyze the experiences of 41 families who have interacted with the child welfare system, foster care, adoption processes, family courts, or other custodial procedures – many of them are Indigenous or live with low income. The historic and ongoing state control and institutionalization of disabled children in Canada are interrogated through the lens of settler-colonialism (Awj, 2017; Disability Rights International, 2021). This chapter scrutinizes constructs framed by colonial narratives, including disabled childhoods, notions of disability, the “best interest of the child,” the archetype of the “good parent,” and the designation of custodial “status.” We present Institutional Ethnography as a method of de-constructing these systems and identifying care principles in the changing context of family.

“Web3” is a practice in participatory digital infrastructures through the ability to read, write, and control own digital assets. Web3 is hailed as the alternative to the failings of big tech, offering a participatory mode of digital organization and shared ownership of digital infrastructure through algorithmic governance. This paper offers an introductory playbook to researchers entering the field of Web3 by providing an analytical lens to approach the emergent field of Web3 as “infrastructuring.” It argues that Web3 can be understood as a collective, community exploration of “how to infrastructure.” Drawing on qualitative examples derived from digital ethnographic methods, the study reveals that play, politics, and prefiguration are fundamental qualities underpinning Web3’s vision of offering an “exit” from established institutional infrastructures. Therefore, a primary challenge Web3 faces in its governance experiments centers around the question of how to effectively build and manage infrastructure.

This paper explores the influence of financialization in the post-2008 credit crisis, which led to a general mistrust in financial institutions and states. Simultaneously, Web3 and digital finance emerged as a way to navigate this problematic state of affairs, and many individuals were drawn to the agency of machines, code, and algorithms in making a deviation from austerity toward some form of liberation. Taking the form of an oracle reading, this paper uses the “Gambler” archetype to explore the subjective movement of those who engage with digital finance as a strategy to face the generalized climate of austerity and to claim their share of the economy, now that work has ceased to be a lifetime calling.

A schema is a concept used to describe the organisation of memory about an object. Schema are perceptual prototypes abstracted from numerous episodic events based on their similarities or commonalities. In tourism, a schema may be termed a network, mental model, social schema, stereotype, social role, script, worldview, heuristics or archetype. A schema is flexible. New information may be either assimilated or accommodated based on its degree of congruity. Schema incongruent information requires more mental effort to process. The concept is used in research on destination brand image, storytelling, social relationships, attitude change and transformation during travel. The concept is useful in discussion of the change to a sustainable worldview.

This chapter analyzes the efficiency levels of a circular economy (CE) with an emphasis on transaction costs. It examines the governance aspect of CE activities in comparison to the predominant linear value creation. Extant CE research in business studies tends to be descriptive and lacks a theoretical foundation, particularly in understanding CE management. Transaction cost theory explains efficiency in economic organizing, lending itself to the study of arrangements that maximize resource efficiency at continued economic virtue. The conceptualization proposes that CE transaction costs are greater than those within the linear economy (LE), primarily due to the uncertainties about reciprocal dependencies, looping material complexities, exchanging novel information, and increased contracting efforts. Geographically bounded and institutionally homogeneous CE initiatives may curb these rising costs. By bringing efficiency concerns into CE analysis, the chapter demonstrates the applicability of transaction cost theory and highlights CE relevance to international business by pointing out spatial choice implications.
