Intelligent government

Several departments across the Ministry of the Flemish community in Belgium, including the Department of Environment and Infrastructure and the Department of Welfare, Public Health and Culture, have implemented business intelligence (BI) solutions from Cognos, a leader in BI and corporate performance management. Using Cognos, employees have improved access to data and senior managers have the accurate and up-to-date information they need to make critical policy decisions.

Flanders is one of the three communities that form Belgium, and is the most dynamic and prosperous region of the country. The administration of Flanders is in the hands of the Ministry of the Flemish community.

With more than 100 offices in Flanders, the Department of Environment and Infrastructure is the largest department of the Ministry of the Flemish community and is responsible for the preparation and implementation of policy. Using Cognos to aggregate data from over 100 different sources, employees both on site and in the field will be able to trend and analyse data to make more informed decisions about the planning and evolution of infrastructure development, environment protection, architectural and ecological preservation, land usage, transport and water management. Cognos' dynamic scorecarding solution will enable the department to track key performance indicators for monitoring policy pursuance through the highest levels of government.
