Women setting the pace

The Professional BusinessWomen of California (PBWC) organisation has established an annual Pacesetter Award to honour Bay Area companies that support the advancement of women in the workplace. The PBWC Pacesetter Award ranks firms according to the following criteria:

  • percentage of women executives (defined as vice president and above);

  • percentage of women corporate officers;

  • percentage of women board members;

  • percentage of women employees at each company; and

  • development and continuing support of programs that benefit women in the workplace.

The top ranking companies that received the PBWC's Pacesetter Award for 2003 in ranked order are: HP, Gap, State Farm Insurance, Bank of America, Charles Schwab, Guidant, SBC Communications, Wells Fargo, AT&T, Providian Financial, ChevronTexaco, Cisco Systems, Sun Microsystems, McKesson, PG&E, PeopleSoft, Genentech, Lockheed Martin, Safeway, IBM, United Airlines, Oracle, Seagate Technology, Silicon Graphics and Siebel Systems.
