Multifunction centre (MFC) manufacturer Brother UK has launched the MFC-890, which offers full-colour printing, copying, faxing, and scanning, all from one machine. What is really said to be different about this machine is the PhotoCapture Centre, designed to enable instant printing and archiving of digital photographs. The PC and Mac-compatible MFC-890 is based on Piezo inkjet technology and uses permanent rather than disposable print heads to reduce the cost of ownership. This latest model offers a 16ppm and 20ppm mono print speed. It is also claimed to provide a high printer specification with PCL5e emulation, and up to 2,400 by 1,200 dpi resolution, with Brother's parallel and USB interfaces as standard. The MFC-890 offers three slots for memory cards so that it can be used with SmartMedia, Compact Flash, and MemoryStick.
