Not a dressing down
Not a dressing down
Oh, how times change. Deutsche Bank has become the latest high profile firm to bring an end to casual dressing at work. The bank is banning jeans, midriff tops, baggy clothing, T-shirts and trainers. Mark Ferron, chief operating officer of the global markets unit, says some staff have been "dressing down to extremes". As well as changing their clothes, he now wants employees to "tuck shirts into trousers". A spokesman for the bank says: "We are a global investment bank, not a sixth form college." Other City firms like Lehman Brothers and Credit Suisse First Boston have also recently made their dress code more strict. This seems to be the end of an era. The dress down movement sprang from Silicon Valley and it seems as though the demise of the high tech sector has focused minds on business results (and corresponding dress) rather than on keeping employees happy to keep employees.
