Dear, dear
Dear, dear
Pricerunner Research recently compared prices on 29 different consumer products in 13 pean countries. Huge price variations between the different countries were found. The most expensive of the EU countries is the UK, but Norway, which lies outside the EU, is even more costly. The cheapest country for consumers is Portugal, with prices less than half of those in the UK. Pricerunner put together a basket of 12 of these products (Mars bar, Coca Cola, Marlboro Lights, newspaper, potatoes, tomatoes, milk, McFlurry, McChicken, cinema ticket, bus ticket and petrol), with each item costing less than 8. The total cost of the 12 products varies greatly between the countries, from 17.89 in Portugal to 43.71 in Norway. The UK is the second most expensive country, with a shopping basket costing 37.76. UK prices are 111.1 per cent higher than prices in Portugal, and 36.5 per cent higher than those in France. For more information, see http://www.pricerunner.co.uk
