Océ has teamed with Adobe to advance the use of Adobe PostScript and Acrobat portable document format (PDF) formats in the engineering and reprographics markets in connection with the new Océ Technical Document Systems (TDS) Series of wide-format equipment. As the number of file formats within the world of computer-aided design (CAD) has grown, customer need for a secure and portable file format allowing them to more easily share, view and print released engineering documents has increased. The Océ TDS Series marks the first time that users of wide-format printing and scanning systems have been able to directly create and print Adobe PDF files. "Adobe formats are a proven solution for communicating documents in a digital format, and are an effective solution for the engineering reprographics market," said Francis Fay, director, product marketing, for the Océ Wide Format Printing Systems business unit. The Océ TDS400, Océ TDS600 and Océ TDS800 now allow for direct printing of PDF files with no need to open Acrobat or any other application, reducing the time and effort required to produce prints.

The Océ TDS Series may be configured as stand-alone printers, stand-alone scanners or multifunction printing, copying and scanning solutions. Océ's Scan Logic scan-to-file software expands Océ's support of PDF with the ability to scan directly to a PDF file format. By allowing users to select PDF as a file format right from the control panel of the scanner, Océ has eliminated the time-consuming task of converting scanned images using additional software. Hardcopy drawings can be scanned immediately to PDF format, and distributed directly to virtually any FTP location in the office or on the Internet, with a single push of a button.

Océ's Engineering Exec print room automation and document archiving software is also dedicated to supporting PDF as a preferred format for enterprise-wide consistency and interchangeability of electronic documents. Files stored in PDF format in Océ Engineering Exec's Doc Exec vaults will be displayed and printed correctly, regardless of the original application software employed.
