Holiday in France

Nearly three-quarters of French employees spend more than half of the week away from the office, compared to a mere 30 per cent in the UK, according to a recent survey. In addition, 61 per cent of French workers do not feel out of touch when they are working remotely, while more than half of UK staff feel a loss of control and involvement when out of the office. The survey, of 150 professionals who work within technology or IT related companies across France and the UK, was conducted by mobile peripherals specialist, Mobility Electronics. It would appear that, on the whole, the French are more at ease with mobile working.

"Clearly, mobile working suits the French culture, while the UK is busy playing catch-up", said Don Johnson, executive vice-president of world-wide sales, marketing and operations, at Mobility Electronics. "It's interesting to see, however, that there is some common ground when it comes to the limitations of working from laptops. Most people would like the freedom to change notebook manufacturer without having to buy a completely new set of peripherals. A total of 72 per cent of respondents said that their companies don't own docking stations, mainly due to cost", he added. "This is a revealing statistic – just one universal docking station per company can provide all of the functionality of a desktop, regardless of the laptop manufacturer. If European companies are serious about mobile computing, they will have to wise up to this, or pay the price for upgrades."
