London is tops for business

London has been voted as the top city for business in Europe, in a recent survey by technology information portal, SystemsPlaza. When 100 UK technology companies were asked which cities they think are best for business in Europe, London was voted top, with Frankfurt in second place and Paris third. However, the British came only second when those questioned were asked which European nationality they believe is the nicest to do business with. The Dutch took first place for popularity, with the Irish in third position.

"One of the key factors in these opinions appears to be language", comments Joanna Liddiard of SystemsPlaza, the information portal for the UK's IT, telecoms and Internet companies. "The British are not such keen linguists as our counterparts in Europe. We tend to rely heavily on English being the international language of business. In fact, 38 per cent of companies questioned in this survey said that language barriers had caused them problems when expanding into Europe. This is further illustrated by the fact that The Netherlands and Ireland are the preferred starting points for expansion into Europe for businesses not currently trading there. Both countries offer fluency in English."
