Project importance

Project importance

I have been introducing a new project management methodology into the office – not a "formal, third party" one, but one which I, and my senior staff, have devised to meet our own needs for a structured, non-bureaucratic approach. One problem is that the more we talk about project management – and we have so many development projects that we need it! – the more the important day-to-day service delivery recedes into the background in perceived importance. At least we have recognized this – we don't want to de-motivate those staff who have little involvement in the "important" projects but are responsible for the quality of these day-to-day services. We are therefore building in checks and balances to ensure that development activity is seen in its rightful place within our portfolio of activity – important and different, but not more important!
