The one really useful thing about getting messages electronically rather than on paper is that the Web addresses are (usually) live links. When you read a piece of paper with a Web address that looks interesting, you think, "I'll look at that, later" but rarely do. When the address is blue and underlined (luckily, most people still respect the link colour convention), it is so easy to simply "click and go". Of course, the downside to this is that you sometimes then end up being distracted from your original purpose and a simple e-mail results in several minutes of browsing (or "reference" work as I prefer to call it).
