And then again …

The resilience of the above-mentioned hierarchical, bureaucratic organisation never ceases to amaze me. They are slow and ponderous – but they are powerful and when they do see any specific light, they do have the resources to follow it. IBM might have thrown away much of its advantage of the original PC, it may have seen the Internet/Web late – but it remains one of the most successful companies in the world because, in spite of its size, complexity and organisational overhead, it does some key things right. If course, perhaps chief amongst these is that it invests in research and development – another less risky (to a large bureaucratic organisation) way of investing in talent. So, perhaps only those who don't invest in their own future are doomed – and that's how it should be!
