Excellent!

We are nearing the presentation of the first MX2000 Manufacturing Excellence Awards - an enhanced set of awards relaunched last year by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). The central themes of innovation and forward planning are backed by a set of industry-approved assessment criteria contained in a self-assessment audit to identify top-performing companies in a number of award categories covering process innovation, resource efficiency, people effectiveness, product innovation and customer focus (the last two sponsored by KPMG). As well as category winners, competition will be particularly keen for two awards for best business performance: the Foresight Award for Manufacturing Excellence - SME (for a small- to medium-sized enterprise), and the KPMG Foresight Award for Manufacturing Excellence (overall winner). The Foresight element will be assessed during site visits when companies' strategies to take account of the anticipated industrial climate will be examined. This vision must be shown to prompt necessary action in stimulating change and that the company is thinking ahead in identifying its strengths and weaknesses and product development needs.
