Give me a bell

Telcordia Technologies, Inc. (formerly Bellcore) today announced the signing of a multi-million dollar contract to provide Telkom with an end-to-end, integrated service activation and assurance solution designed to assist in rapidly modernising telecommunications throughout South Africa. Telkom, one of the largest national telecommunications service operators in Africa, has chosen the Telcordia solution to improve the quality of its telecommunications service in support of a major nationwide expansion effort. Today, South Africa's telecommunications network is overwhelmingly concentrated in the nation's well-developed urban areas, while millions of South Africans in rural areas lack access to basic telecommunications services. By 2002, Telkom plans to have added a further two million lines to its network, as well as offering both corporate and residential customers an even greater range of cutting-edge products, services and telecommunications solutions. Telcordia will provide its service provisioning and assurance suite consisting of 14 integrated software products designed to support both wireline and wireless capabilities. In addition, Telcordia will provide comprehensive workforce skills training, change realisation and business process consulting.
