Bird's Eye Walls has installed six SA2 semi-automatic uniform size case tapers from Limpet Tapes in the Repack facility of its Lowestoft plant where frozen vegetables (predominantly peas) are stored in bulk and then bagged in branded packaging and boxed in a range of case sizes. This takes the full complement of Limpet machines to ten. The choice was due to the user-friendly characteristics of the SA2s. Adjustments for different size case runs is rapid and simple - minimising downtime; the machines also feature a "floating" top tape carrier which rises at the touch of a button to provide easy access for tape replacement and automatically returns to the production position. The whole process takes less than a minute and has been explained easily to staff as part of the company's Total Productive Maintenance system.
