Fast fax

Pitney Bowes Facsimile Systems the first company to introduce high-speed 33.6Kbps technology to the standalone fax market has now launched the Model 9930. Designed for corporate use, where reductions in telephone line charges and improvement in staff productivity take priority, the Model 9930 is the fastest and most all-encompassing multifunctional laser fax machine in the Pitney Bowes product portfolio. Featuring the latest in fax technology a high-speed 33.6Kbps modem, JBIG compression technology and a new proprietary V.8 short protocol the Model 9930 can fax one page in three seconds, about three times as fast as the most common fax machine currently in use. By implementing a network of Model 9930 systems throughout a corporation, fax-related telephone charges (which, according to the 1998 Gallup/Pitney Bowes study on fax management, average 20 per cent of the annual telecommunications spend at large UK companies) could thus be dramatically reduced. A Printer Driver enables users to print documents at up to 400dpi from any Windows 3.1 or 95 application. Additional software allows the user to send and receive fax documents directly from a PC and use the unit as a printer and scanner, or to integrate the unit into existing LAN and communications networks. The Model 9930 can also be used as a convenience copier, with up to 99 copies being printed in one run, and automatically collates all scanned originals, received or copied documents into the correct page order. Standard features of the Model 9930 include: broadcasting to up to 232 locations, 35 one-touch keys and 200 speed dial numbers. Other cost cutting and time saving features include: Delayed Send up to 30 jobs can be programmed to transmit at the most economical time; ten confidential mailboxes; 20 Account Codes for tracking and billing purposes; a 50 page automatic document feeder; ITU-T ECM extra fine resolution, image smoothing and 64 shade greyscale with photo/text distinction; Quick Scan which allows a three page document to be scanned in just nine seconds; priority interrupt where a fax in progress can be interrupted whilst a more urgent document is transmitted and then resumes transmission; polling; and relay broadcasting.
