Building surveyors and engineers hoped to see their chances of mobility in Europe improved when amendments to improve the transferability of qualifications were voted through the committee stage in the European Parliament. This optimism was short-lived however, as MEPs voted against the proposals. As a result, British and Irish professionals wishing to undertake design work in other EU countries will be prevented from doing so.
