Accreditation for building conservation projects

Keywords: Buildings, Conservation, Accreditation

New rules have recently been introduced which mean that from September 2003, lead consultants in grant-aided work to historic buildings will need to be accredited in building conservation. There is already a similar requirement in Scotland. This news comes hot on the heels of similar proposals for mortgage valuations and for the new home inspectors (see the Editorial in this issue). Members of professional bodies may well be questioning the point of belonging to these organisations when they require this separate accreditation to practice their profession – particularly when these same organisations are asking members to pay hugely increased subscriptions in the near future.
