The Commission has decided to pursue infringement proceedings against seven Member States (including the UK) for persistent non-compliance with EU legislation relating to the environmental impact assessment of certain public and private projects before their implementation.
EU Finance Ministers have adopted a Decision authorising Member States to apply a reduced rate of VAT to certain labour-intensive services for a three-year trial period. One of the services is renovating and repairing private dwellings. The aim is to bring "moonlighting" back into the formal economy. Nine countries have requested to apply the reduced rate, including the UK.
