HBM's latest digital load cell, the FIT®/ 5, features an adjustable output rate of up to 1,200 measurements per second to meet the needs of demanding and very fast weighing applications, such as dynamic checkweighers (Plate 4).

Internal calibration is undertaken automatically during running measurements ensuring that high accuracy and long-term stability is maintained. The integrated electronics provide extensive functions for the complete monitoring of both coarse and fine flow during batch processes. This includes a pre- and post-triggering option that, for example, simplifies redosing on interrupted batch processes caused by dosing failures.

The FIT®/5 has four limit value switches, including hysteresis, for sorting and grading tasks and the design utilizes digital filters because these are unaffected by external factors such as vibration and temperature variations. A patent-pending overload protection is integrated into the measuring body that acts in all directions eliminating the need for expensive protective and safety measures.

The FIT®/5 comprises a hermetically encapsulated measuring body made from stainless steel and is IP68- compliant. The load cell satisfies stringent food hygiene requirements and complies with OIML R60, R76 for up to 3000d.

The load cell includes HBM's Windows-based Panel32 software so that all scale parameters can be accessed and the vibration characteristics of any source of mechanical interference analyzed. The fast fourier transformation (FFT) enables swift frequency analysis without any additional complex analyzers.

All trigger, dosing and batching parameters can be accessed and adjusted using the software as can the limit values, including hysteresis. The FITw/5 features five different user- selected filter ranges allowing the load cell to be easily adapted to any measurement applications.

An integrated multi-channel measurement function is available in bus mode and all measurements, parameters and analyses can easily be stored on a PC or printed out as required. Multiple interfaces, including RS232, RS485-4-wire, CANopen and DeviceNet are available for communication with other devices in an integrated system.
