Ultra-fast thermistor probe responds in 30 ms

Keywords: Temperature, Measurement

New ultra-fast response thermistor probes, featuring response times of less than 30 ms typical in liquids, have been introduced by Betatherm specifically for medical applications, monitoring of exceptionally small volumes, and other situations where a fast time response is critical (Plate 5).

The new Betatherm glass bead fast time response probes, feature a glass thermistor bead that extends from the tube, minimizing thermal mass and optimizing time response characteristics, and keeping the overall bead diameter to only 0.38 mm. The resulting probe is ideal for incorporation into medical catheters or hypodermic syringes, and can be used in other small housings, or to measure the temperature of very small volumes of fluid.

The miniature probe consists of a hermetically sealed glass-encapsulated thermistor welded to insulated extension leads. The welded joints are potted in a polimide tube with an epoxy compound, to provide general protection and strain relief.

Betatherm is offering the thermistors in industry standard resistance values, with custom lead types and lengths available. Typical dissipation constant for these thermistor probes is 0.3 mw/°C in air.
