Keywords: Acoustics, Sensors, Fabrication

A design and method of fabrication for an acoustic sensor module for mounting on the hull of a submarine or a surface ship is disclosed. The design presents an acoustic sensor module comprising a two-part rubber shell surrounding an inner volume occupied in part by an acoustic medium. The interior surface of the shell has a boss, and a sensor connected to the boss by an interference fit. This acoustic sensor module is connected to a telemetry module via a telemetry line.

The design also involves the use of molded alignment structures to reduce tooling requirements and eliminate a significant amount of assembly labor in fabricating hull mounted sonar arrays.
